Here`s a basic DIY synthetic grass installation guide:
Method one = With a drainage system / sub base
- Mark the area where you want to install the artificial grass
- Measure the area, keeping in mind that the standard grass widths are 2m and 4m wide ( and sold to the nearest running meter)
- Remove the vegetation (grass, roots, weeds etc.) and +- 100mm of the topsoil, remember topsoil and clay does not compact like a base material..
- Level the surface with a steel rake
- Moisten the soil with harvested rainwater or well point water if available
- Compact the area using a rammer or plate compactor
- Level the surface using a straight edge, check that the water runoff is away from any buildings
- Install your weed membrane
- Install your borders where the turf will be glued or attached to. (This could be brick, concrete or wood boards)
- Import your base material, compact and level
- Purchase you grass from Tidy Turf
- Roll out the synthetic grass
- Cut the grass to shape
- Glue the joins onto a seeming tape and the edges to the borders
- Brush the silica sand into the grass, against the grain of the grass until the yarns stand upright
- Voila! Relax and enjoy the results of your hard work!
